To all those redtop owners out there a quick question regarding mot and insurance please.
First question. MOT, as im aware people with redtops in there corsa dont register it and keep it as a 1.2 etc, will the mot centre not fail your car as the emisions will be higher for the redtop than the standard engine resulting in a fail because the computer and records still believe its a smaller engine. have you had any trouble doing it and what does the garage say.
Second question. if you have registered it as a 2ltr how much is ur insurance. im 22 and have 5 years no claims and am buying a redtop corsa, but undisided weather to declare or not, as knowing my luck i will have a stupid idiot hit me or something and void my insurance. if any one could answer my questions i would appreciate it many thanks steve

Re: REDTOP OWNERS
Firstly...MOT emmsions limits are based on age of the car, not the engine fitted. Irrlavent whether 1.2, 1.4 or 2.0. There is no reason why you shouold ahve problems with emmisions on an XE.
Secondly....Insurance and the V5 are also unrelated.
If you don't declare the engine change on your V5 you will be paying the wrong rate of tax. The implications I assume are that if the DVLA find out I imagine they can cube your car, (as they can if you don't pay road tax). Practically i'm not sure how they would find out though, hence why loads of peopel don't bother.
Ok so tax I don't care about, but it really pisses me off when people don't declare a major conversion to insurance, you may as well not buy insurance at all. If someone can't afford to pay the higher tax or the higher insurance, they can't afford the conversion. That simple. If engine conversion not declared, the insurance is automatically not worth the paper it's written on.

Cheers fot the replys, however just got a qoute on the corsa telling them about the redtop with alloys exhaust lowered and cat 1 alarm and suprisingly it will only be £625 a year which is only 200 pound more than im paying on my 1.2. so here comes my 2ltr corsa legally insured lol.

Sweet! That's pretty good.
You'll soon get over selling the old one when your nailing it down a B-Road with the XE humming away

yeh i no mate cant wait she was a beast lol. just cant decide weather to use parts on my on the new 1 like the later style bumpers. interior cos dont like his red and black all the way throw the stitching and then sell everything seperatly or just sell complete working car and buy seperate bumpers from ebay or scrappy.
my 1.2 has pro race 1.2 diamond cut rims, remus race tube and 2.5" sportex back box green panel filter and perfect interior no rips or wear on them so a little bit tyed in the middle on what to do. so let me no what you think
