induction kit all the way.. drilled airbox ill MOT faliure and doesnt suck in as much air... so goes slower and doesn't sound as nice

It is defo not an MOT failure m8. nowhere near. Basically drilling it dont get u more power - just more noise. the power comes from de-restricting it (taking the little pipes out of it) which will increase airflow. if u wanna get more power then drill a huge hole in the airbox and fit a cold air feed like u wud for an induction kit and put it behind the grill/bumper somewhere. that wud get u more cold air going in. Doing that is a good cheap option but tbh ur best bet if u can afford it is an enclosed induction kit which will stop the heat from the engine affecting the temperature of the air. but they are pricey - about 70 quid

no i meant the drilled airbox will not suck in as much air hence the airflow senser tells the ECU that it doesnt need as much fuel *=less power*... but with an induction kit... more air = more fuel = more power...
oh :O i heard that it was a straight failiure :/

your ecu can only adjust by a small ammount, so its not strictly true more air = more fuel = more power you may end up with too much air than you can provide fuel for, this will restrict power most likely you will start to feel flat spots all over the rev range. plus will have the disadvantage of sucking in the hot air from around the engine bay which is why to take advantage of an induction kit fully you will need it chipping or mapping.
im not saying that a drilled box is better but if your going for an induction try for an enclosed one the main reason you can buy induction kits for £20 is cus they suck
myself i just get a green cotton pannel filter and modify the airbox, did this on my previous car (which wasnt a corsa btw) and you could really tell the diffrence

DE-RESTRICTED AIRBOX WITH UPGRADED FILTER BY FAR THE BEST. induction fekk up you air flow meter if not dnt propperly also engine looks alot cleaning with the origional box.

does a pannel filter create any sound like the induction kits? eg would a k&n pannel filter make a similer sound to a k&n induction kit?

yes if de-resricted right. the panel is the best as you are able to keep the box ( no tacky induction tied off with zipties) plus also doesnt O_o up your air flow meter wich are prone to brake .

a hole in the airbox wont be an MOT fail dont worry
theres a guide :
http://forums.corsa-b.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=11162 (does no one look at the FAQs?)
make sure the holes you drill are before the filter otheriwse the filter is useless and will ruin your engine.
