Rear wheel bearings

Hi,
Is there a reliable way to fit new rear wheel bearings without using a press? I've read about using a large diameter socket (or drift punch, whatever that is...) and a hammer, would this work?

Thanks

use a socket roughly the same diameter as the bearing, just make sure it goes in square.

if its the wheel bearing that just slides in instead of a press, (the bearing type what you can see) then all you need is to punch out the old wheel bearings, get wheel bearing grease and put new ones in but make sure there in correctly, get all the grease into the every nuck and crany there is, mines were easy to do took about 10 mintues to do them, and be sure not to lose the split pins

if its the inner race bearing, you will have to punch the old one out,and use the socket to put in the new inner race bearing, make sure that no dirt or grit gets in contact with any of the bearings.

Thanks for your advice guys, got both bearings in using a mixture of drift punch and whacking a socket :)
