Stalling on idling while stationary

Hi all,

My '95 1.2 Corsa (not sure of the exact engine) has been stalling while stationary (i.e. traffic lights etc.), sometimes needing gas to start and having a sticky choke for a while now...replaced the injector which helped for a couple of days until the fuel filter (which had never been changed) clogged the new one up, so replaced the filter and fitted another injector and was great for a few weeks. Just started doing it again though - could there be something else messing with the injector?

I know the ICV is a pretty common culprit for things like this, but the guide here isn't quite the same engine as mine, and I don't know enough about cars to find mine by myself  if anyone could post a picture of where it is, I'd give that a try...

Thanks in advance!

The icv as shown in the pics on the link, is attached to the throttle body, it might be slightly different, but if you follow the directions you will not go wrong. Since you have already had a blocked fuel filter, do not run your below the 1/4 full mark, as there could well be a lot of dirt in the tank, think of the year of your car, and this could be causing some fuel flow problems for you. If you can, take out the tank, and try and empty as much sh*t out of the tank as you can, sluice it out using a can of filtered petrol, this could save you some bother.
Clean the throttle body when you are doing the icv valve, use carburettor cleaner for this job.

Ok, replaced the ICV, was just going to put it all back together when I realised I had been an idiot and not noted which vacuum pipe goes where on the air box...at the moment I have the red going to the air cleaner and the black to the injection unit (see pic) - is that right?

I will see about cleaning the fuel tank, but it's a little beyond my level of ability - might redex or something help? I've heard that redex is a bad idea in very old engines...

You can give redex or other injector cleaners a try, I am not persuaded that they do any damage at all, having used redex since I started with motorbikes, many many years ago, and have carried through with it to no ill effects since.
If cleaning the usual culprits is not the answer, egr, icv, plugs etc., then it could be the maf sensor is beginning to go. Try disconnecting the air flow meter, it is found on the big pipe leading from the air box, try and start the car to see if it will run.
If it is running a bit better, then suspect the air flow meter. Try also disconnecting the map sensor, usually found along the bulk head, and see what happens then.

i had same problem and it was EGR, MAF can also cause it but telltale sign of the MAF is usually losing power over 60mph, hope you sort it mate, im no mechanic, just going on personal experience.

My Corsa A is not starting, I checked the filter and is is flowing, gasoline reaches the carburettor but Its not going in, it is not electrical, since I had replaced battery, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor and checked the cables, also the coil is sparking.

I opened once and after a few tries, there was a big spray of gasoline then it started, it lasted for a week and then died again and it wont start... Is the part with an electrical connection in the center of the carb the injector? a plastic knob with a couple of mesh rings and a couple of o-rings on it, I think this part is failing because when I took it off a lot of gas splashed out, so it must be building it up inside. I wonder if someone could tell me the name of the part and an idea of where to get it online, since I am in Norway. Or maybe is something else.... i have a picture but cant seem to figure out how to post it. Thanks
