Cam jam

Post by spleenripper »

Corsa B, year 2000, 1L 12v, petrol, manual.

My cam seems to be getting noisier. I looked in through the oil filler cap and the end cam seems to be very poorly lubed, almost dry to the touch. No warning lights on the dash. I’m thinking possible blockage or faulty/weak oil pump. Familiar problem? What should I try first?

I’m gonna do a flush and oil+filter change, see if that makes any difference. Hope it’s not an expensive repair.

Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

Thanks for response.

Had it 2 months. Told by seller it had just been serviced. Oil does not look black yet, so I’m guessing it must be fairly recent. I’m doing an oil change anyway, just so I can flush it and be sure.

A friend says the ‘oil breather’ could be clogged. Is this a possible cause? Where is the oil breather? Easy job to check/unclog?

pritty sure the oil breather is the black pipe going from the head to the black box on top of your throttle body. last time i checked mine it was clogged up like mad with gunk. but i dont think that will sove ur problem.

Do torque the cams down again. Turn the bolts back a little, then torque them up to specifications. It could also be the timing chain rattling away, no big worries if this is causing your noises.
