the redtop (c20xe) is the more common conversion of the 2 into a corsa as they have a better following than the ecotec (x20xev) , a lot of people slate the ecotec engine saying that they are rubbish due to sensor failure and because they are not quite as powerful as the redtop and are not as reliable, that isnt true, if you get a early redtop like a 20xe (pre cat) or c20xe on a distribitor setup they can be unreliable, a lot of redtop engines have been rebuilt and suffer with noisy lifters, the one to go for would be the later type would be the dispack version (coilpack), the wiring on both engines are very simular on the side where you join them to the corsa loom but not on the engine side of things
im not slatting the engine but i would go for the ecotec, like i have with my car
they are a completely different engine to the redtop, the only thing that is the same is the engine mountings, the internals are very different, valve angles are completely different, the ecotec uses a 8 valve crank from the earlier series engines such as the c20ne, i could go on forever saying the differences and pro's and con's of either engine, there has always been a big arguement of which is better, i picked the ecotec because it was newer and isnt as common in a corsa as what the redtop is, you could find a good ecotec engine as they are common enough, at the end of the day its down to personal prefrance, but i know which one i would choose if i did one again...........
p.s check out my build thread if you want insperation on putting a x20xev in your corsa

also you could go on ebay and find a redtop powered corsa everyday of the week, try and find one with a x20xev in it

uh oh! now you've set him off, you will never get him to shut up!
nah he has a point, and he has convinced me to go for the x20xev. there cheap, reliable and easy to get hold of.
there was one for sale on mig web the other week that had been completely rebuilt by a profeshional (had all reciepts) and had only done 5k since its rebuild and he only wanted £250 for it and it came with everything needed to get it goin
i will be goin for the x20xev when i can afford the insurence
EDIT:
JUST SPOTTED THIS
