swapping airbox on 1.2 8 valve - weird cable thing???

hi all. ive had a few months break from this forum after i wrote my lovely corsa off but im bk now as my girlfriend is a nice 1.2 8 valve corsa swing :p

right onto the problem: on my 1.2 16 valve i de-restricted and drilled my airbox which gave it a nice noise. she wants 2 make it slightly noisier as well so i sed id drop my old airbox in and just see if it made any difference 2 the noise it makes. only problem is when i opened the bonnet her airbox had a weird cable going to it with a circle thing attached 2 the side of the box. Mine didnt have this so i left fitting it till id asked for advice. What is this this cable and can it be removed? Will it cause any problems if its just cut off or is it best 2 leave it on?

is it red?
mine was red iirc i just blocked it off with a screw and had no problems

i screwed a screw into the end of it thus blanking it off
