hmmm sounds like a dodgy egr valve or maybe an air flow meter. u done any induction mods recently? they can cause the air flow meter to break

the air flow meter is far cheaper 2 sort than an egr valve (about 25 quid from a scrappy although vauxhall want 180 quid for a new one) so maybe try this first

hope that helps

nice price m8. i have a feeling it cud be the air flow meter tho - older people tend not 2 rev as high or use the car as much and this lack of inactivity could have damaged the airflow meter over time. best bet wud be 2 try and pick one up from the scrappy (both the 1.0 litre 12 valve and ur 1.2 16 valve have the same one) and see it it works. Shud be a simple job as well m8 - even i cud do it in less than 5 mins :)

I have just bought a 1.0 12v merit (1998 model) and everything is fine until I take her to the motorway. If I go in 5th gear and hit somewhere between 60-70 the warning light appears and the car goes in limp mode until it drops to about 50mph... Researching on the net the airflow meter seems to be the first part to change. Watching a few on EBAY - keeping my fingers crossed this is the cause!!

yup that defo sounds like the air flow meter - mine did exactly the same thing. watch the ones on ebay, make sure u only get the official bosch ones that were made for the corsa, not some unbranded generic crap. honest m8 ud be better off lighting fire to your wallet than buying a generic one

Yeah I`m hunting for Bosch only - so far looking about £70/80 on Ebay - I don`t suppose anyone knows were I can locate one within the North East? I guess I`d pay anything up to £90 if I could get my hands on it tomorrow :)

I followed this up in another post on here somewhere - but basically I had the same problem as you. I bought a new Bosch MAF and the problem remained. The next best bet it to get the Idle Control Valve cleaned and reset. (and most probably you`ll need the error codes from your ECU to be cleared.. Vauxhaul will do this for £40 or if you can find a local garage with the gear it`ll cost nearer £20) (as a side note, apparently if you have a laptop - for £80 you can buy the software and cable from the net to do it yourself)

Ever since I have had no more warning lights and the car is a little more responsive! Just need to replace to the clutch now :(

(btw I got my new MAF from a local Andrew Page depot for £90)

I had exactly the same problem as this, so i chanced it without having a dianostics bought the Mass Airflow Meter put it in and staright away i felt the power increase in my 1.2 16V i could actaully keep up with the 1 litre engines that were beating me left right and centre.
Although a few tiems since changing the part the light does still come on but no where near as often as it did before.
Multiple problems and the MAF was just one of them maybe??
