i have recently been having a lot of trouble with the handbrake on my car, before i did anything to the car the handbrake went to 10 click with no problem and this wasnt holding the car on the smallest of incline so had to use the gears to hold it. so finally got round to having a look at it adjusted the handbrake cable and now it wont go any further than 5 clicks but the handbrake still doest hold the car at all! ps, wanna get it working before the mot which is on the 26th! because it will fail on the rolling road brake test thing as i have forgotten to take it off once and drove round with the hand brake on without noticing!!

any advice on what might be wrong with or what it will need

just to note aswell the front brakes are brilliant!

you will need get it up and have a look underneath, check:

to see if the handbrake cable hasnt been stretched
check rear shoes if warn
check all connections.
