Replaced MAF - new problem!

Post by lee_uk »

Just bought the car 1 week today (1998 "S" reg 1ltr 12v merit / 3 cylinder)... and within days I noticed with applying moderate to full gas the car would go into some kind of limp mode and warning light would appear until the revs dropped below 3k. So I have since replaced the MAF with a brand new Bosch one (exact part number etc)... I disconnected the battery for about an hour before trying it out...

Now.. the car wont start unless I press the accelerator to kick it into life.. and when stationary at junctions it gets close to cutting out... Anyone have any ideas what this might be?? I`m stumped basicially :(

Note: it`s worth adding the car has a full service history at vauxhall (next one due in July) and has done 34k miles.

dissconnecting the battery doesnt reset the battery, your car probly still thinks the MAF is broken . i'd take it to a garage and get them to reset it properly.

Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

Also now when the car is slowing (revs falling) the engine warning light appears for a few seconds (no loss of power though) .. Any thoughts?

Matty: Yeah I guess I will have to do that, cheap do you think?

(I didnt mention the fact the original problem had cleared though - I can now freely accelerate through the gears with no issues)

Yeah before I bought it I knew nothing at all about the Corsa... still don`t :) ... But I am beginning to realise buying this damn 3-cylinder engine is a pretty big mistake :( Will take a look at the guide for the cleaning the ICV.

Well booked in for 2pm today to get the ECU read and fault codes cleared - car seems to be starting ok now though... (maybe the ECU has re-configured itself somewhat) .. Either way will post an update later on

Well to cut a long story short the vx dealer was poo, the codes had been cleared but the light came straight back on... Went back and they tried to con me into buying a new MAF from them for £200. They eventually agreed the one I bought was the same as they would install. Anyway a local garage cleaned and reset the throttle body (and cleared ECU again). Now everything is fine :P
