Corsa difficult to go into second sometimes

Hi i av a corsa ls 1.2 8 valve on a p reg however since buying it last thursday it sometimes wont go into second when you are coming down the gears. and sumtimes you try to get second it will go in to fouth any ideas thanks.

does this only happen when driveing or all of teh time ? try turning the engine off an dgo through the gears does it go into all the other gears ok ?

happens when driving mate. and it does go in all the other gears ok i was thinking could the gearbox oil need topping up.

yea i have to top up my friends vectra as thsi does teh same and it has no oil in as he pulled teh driveshaft out when changeing brakes soem how lol

try topping it up and see how it goes let us nohw ya get on

carnt u just get a new gear box from a write off??

well this can be caused by a number of things

i will try give you a bit of a hand here.

Oil will definately make gear changing more awkward but would not cause the car to go into fourth insted of second. Topup the oil as people have already said as this will just make things easier.

Clutch cable may need adjusting slightly to let the clutch dis-engage properley when coming down the gears as obviously the clutch is spinning, also what revs are you coming down the gears in ? as obviously if your going too fast and have to many engine revs on this will make it hard to get it in gear.

Gear linkage, check the linkage and make sure there is no damage to it or its not being fitted properley.

You may also have to follow the haymes manual for setting up the gear linkage properley.

This is all the things i can think of atm that might make gear changes hard.

I put more gearbox oil in and it seems to be better. but i wil have a look at clutch cable and let you know the crack when it done thanx for the ideas and help though
