What are my rights?

Hi,

Just took my car to quik fit to enquire about whether the wheels need tracking due to vibrations above a certain speed.

Half an hour later the bloak came back and told me the cost of tracking + labour is £40.

I did not ask for this and because quik fit do not accpet Solo cards, I had to go next door to the cash machine which then charged me for my withdrawal.

I only enquired and he said he would have a look, I NEVER asked him to do any work

Could anybody tell me if I have a right to a refund etc?

£40 quid for tracking? id complain at that first of all
sadly unless they have CCTV with audio that can back you up and prooves you had only asked for a price.
you cant really do anything as its your word against theirs

not being funny but did you not notise em doin it to your car? i mean you cant tell me you parked up in the kwickfit carpark and asked for a price and didnt see what they did for half hour
for a start most kwick fit places would have pulled in to a maintence bay i know our local one has several.

iwould go back and speak to the manager about it as that is way over the top !

i would have refused to pay as you never asked for the work to be done and there is nothing they can do mate where is this anyway ?

I did notice yeah and I questioned the man in reception and said "i hope hes only checking the wheels because I havent got any means of paying for maintenence at the moment".

And it is in rotherham.

I know I was stupid to accept that price but there you go, nothing I can do now. I was just curious about what others would do

I dont think so, it near rotherham town centre.

Complaints section are ringing me either today or tomorrow so I can explain to them.

I think garages just presume everyone can afford these things without prior notice

i must admit i went to kwik fit regarding my car pulling left and right, they went to do work on it costing £27, but luckily the worker was a young lad around 19/20 and he said you dont need tracking done as its only a few mm out, and the reason its out is due to the size of the tyres on the car, lucky guy saved me £27.

I would say good as quik fit charged me £27 for front two, then add balancing

they only did my front wheels because bushes on my axle were wore, rubbers on shocks perished and 1 shock leaking so said it might do more harm than wat its worth which is fair enough
