ive just put a new engine in my corsa rally car ( no power steering ) i bought an engine that was out of a car with power steering ( but it didnt have the power steering pump) i bought a non power steering belt and there was no way i could get it around the tensioner... so i sat down and had a cup of tea and the solution came to me
SOLUTION:
get the alternator bracket of a non power steering engine ( i had one that had blown, hence the engine change) take the alternator bracket off your engine and replace it with the new one, the non power steering bracket has a space in it for the tensioners that the non power steering engines have so get one of those too and bolt it on, then buy a non power steering belt... put it around the pulley at the bottom (the big one) and arund the altenator... pull the new tensioner forward and then slip it around that too, let go and the belt will go tought.. HEY PRESTO!
oh and i would take the old tensioner off as well, slap it on ebay for 99p start, what you got to loose
i did this on mine and that is the only way i could solve the problem, the thing is that is the only way the belt will sit correctly without power steering.. oh and if u decide to just disconnect the power steering pump and let it run freely on the belt expect the belt to break as the power steering pump will sieze and wreck the belt.
hope it helped dude...

yeah but like i put above, the belt wont fit unless u change the altenator bracket and put the non power steering tensioner there.

Just noticed this thread stoped a while back... Did you manage your conversion Ok? Im just interested, Ive just bought another corsa (3dr) to replace a 5dr, both have x14xe engine, but the 3dr..newer one.. doesnt have Power steering... And as im only scrapping the 5dr, Which has power steering, How much hassle is it to convert my New 3dr to run with P.a.s. as i have the rack, pump, tensioners, res and what not... but on inspection the, the 3dr's engine mount isnt quite the same, and might cause problems... Did the Ecotec 1.4i 16v sport have a different engine to the Ecotec 1.4i Gls 16v, Like a slight variation?
Cheers

the x14xe with powersteering has a different engine mount to the none powersteering one so it will want changing aswell, cant see it being to hard to do if you got all the bits on a donor car
