x10xe EMU light on / engine near stalling on idle / no power

Please help!
I have a 2000 Corsa-b GLS with the x10xe engine.
At the weekend I treated it a bit, replaced the oil, plugs, air filter (and painted some of the rust!), sorted the handbrake cable and had it running very sweet.
Its done about 100 - 150 miles with the new parts and yesterday my wife called me to tell me that its EMU light came on and it was idling very slowly, almost stalling, had very little power and seemed to blip when the accelerator was pressed.
She got it home and I had a look last night. What I know so far:
- EMU light is on. I cannot read the EMU codes with the paper clip test (wrong engine) and the MFD gives me error 12 (testing started) and error 95 (not a corsa radio) when both the buttons are held in, nothing else.
- Even after leaving the battery off for 30 mins EMU light is still on so I don't think its a remembered fault - I think its a current fault.
- Took the spark plugs out and they are quite black - like its running rich.
- Put the old ones back in (they were a nice chocolate colour when I removed them) and its the same.
- Checked the cable to the DIS - looks ok but cleaned the contacts anyway.
- Checked the cable to the MAF - looks ok but cleaned the contacts anyway.
- Took the MAF out and checked - it seems clear but I couldnt move the filter to check the elements.
- Same with old plugs and new plus.
- Springs in the DIS make good contact with the spark plugs.
- I can hear the fuel pump and its louder than normal when the car is running.
Things I will try tonight:
- Run it without the MAF connected (should this make any difference)?
- Clean the MAF with electrical cleaner (should be ok)?
- Can I test the MAF with a multimeter - if so what should I be looking for?
I have a EMU reader on order from the internets so I should be able to read the EMU tomorrow - hopefully this will help.
Any thoughts on what else I can do? What else could it be? I'm a total noob when it comes to cars so I'm pretty lost...
David.

Okay so I have disconnected the MAF and the engine behaves the exact same - does this mean that the MAF is faulty as it made no difference or does it mean that the MAF is working fine and its something else? I cant quite make up my mind on that...
I have cleaned the MAF and its the exact same - I have also removed the airbox and checked that and its fine.
Im not sure exactly where to go with this now - I hope that the EMU reader tomorrow helps sort this out!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,
David.

i think my car had the same problem, id come up to a junction and it would stall, and when u start it you have to keep the revs there or it stalls.
i adjusted the idle control screw thing, pushed it further in to have more of a contact, and that solved my issue, it idles a bit too much when i first start it, but calms down after a sec, give it a try and tell me the outcome? jamie.

Thanks! I will give that a shot tonight!
Its also got a blip in the throttle as it goes from 2000 to 3000 on the rev counter as well - would that be the same?

Baws - its not that! Thanks though!
I'm still waiting on the code reader arriving, however can anyone think of what else I can try?
If my good lady didn't need the car I would probably enjoy trying to figure this out!

Hi mate, ive had the same trouble and was egr valve, this causes your symptoms, MAF usually causes slugishness at 50-60 mph, other common things are crank sensor which usually gives intermittent trouble of cutting engine out (usually at lights when evryone can see you and take the mickey, or if your going somewhere important lol).
Also air idle speed control valve, and of course the famouse MAF. i would start with erg valve though then get to scrappy to iliminate others, good luck. jimi.

Thanks for the tips!
Looking at the Haynes book for the EGR valve its pretty keen on you replacing the gasket when you take it off. I was hoping to take it off, clean it and put it back on to see if that makes any difference. I'm struggling to find someone in Glasgow who can supply one today and was hoping that perhaps you can get away with re-using the one that's already on it...

I'm back!
My op-com got delivered today. Whooop! Slight problem is that my laptop has about 3 minutes battery life but I managed to get a reading from the EMU!
I have:
Total number of fault codes: 2
P0505 - Idle Air Control Voltage High
(01) - Present
P0100 - Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
(02) - Not present
I take it this means the MAF is dead?
Is the Idle Air Control Valve error caused by the MAF or is it a second fault? Or could it be causing the MAF error.
By the way if anyone else is op-com shopping then this ebay seller is good:

Delivered in two days and a comprehensive email on how to use it!

My friday night is totally rock and roll...
So with the right version of the software and reading the manual I can tell that the MAF error was not present... The version of the software that shipped with the op-com, 090820b, didnt clear the errors. The opcom is v1.39 so I got ahold of software version 090714_EN and that does! Hope this helps anyone else that googles and finds this thread...
The EMU light went off! Whoop! So I reved it a bit and came back on. Baws! However I now only get one code:
P0505 - Idle Air Control Voltage High
The car stammers on 2k to 3k revs however the idle seems fine now. I think cleaning the MAF sorted it out and its now just one fault left.
When I look at the live data (very cool) I can see the MAF etc numbers change so thats all cool, however the idle air control voltages shows as 8 volts and the desired idle air control voltage shows as 11 volts.
Whats an "idle air control valve" then? Anyone got any thoughts? Not attempted the EGR valve yet but the live data makes it look like its working ok...
Sorry for forum spamming but I'm totally lost!
Cheers,
David.

Well thats it sorted! Replacement Idle Control Valve sorted it - all I needed to do after that was run the config on the op-com to set it up and its all good.
I love my corsa again!
Thanks Every One!
