if there is a rattle at the bottom then it wont be the tappets as they are in the head???
Could be big end bearings, loose bolts at the bottom of the con rods or warn gudgeon pins, poss bearings gone in the waterpump, warn cambelt pullies????

he said...."put the car in the garage for a service got it back the rattles STILL there" so it must have been rattling before it went in for a service

wots the mileage, mines rattling like an old tractor at the moment, 90% sure mines the timing chain.
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts
Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

Have you checked all the bolts in the engine bay? I know it sounds daft but you never know - it might be something daft... My radiator fan popped loose on one side and I spent ages figuring that out.

big ends shells going would just cause your piston to move around a little more and cause more ware to the engine, eventually knackering your engine, big end shells to be honest dont ware all that easy unless the car has been run without oil at some point in its life
i would check belt pullies first as they are more common for ware or even your waterpump??? can you hear roughly what side, front or back etc?

sorry to keep jacking the thread but it was used for off roading too ! but still back to threaed and as said check the bay and see if the noise can be pin pointed to a more acurate area as that could help find it lol!
