Hi,
I realise there are tutorials etc on the site but I am fairly clueless and thought I would post my whole problem in the hope of someone helping me out.
I have a W reg Corsa - a Corsa B? (I don't even know that), and yesterday I snapped my key. To cut a long and tortuous story short I am left with the barrell for the ignition out of the metal thing that goes round the steering column, one whol key for the old barrell (which obviously locks my doors) and one snapped key and all the bits hanging out of the steering wheel area. I have a scredriver to turn my car on and off. It's a total nightmare and the butcher who did this has told me I need a new barrell and key, and I can maybe swap the transponder in the keys I have to new keys? The thing is, the butchered barrel casing is still in the housing but I can't get it out - the business about pushing an allen key into it won't work as it is damaged now. So if I can't get that out willI need a new housing thing that the ignition barrel sits in - but how do you get the old one off? I read somewhere else you need to chisel or drill it out and the guy from the garage said I could get one from a scrappy, but how can that be if you need to damage them to get them off? I guess I would need a new one of these things?
Can someone please advise on the best, quickest and cheapest option for me please? The car is worthless really but it's still a sound engine etc., and I can't afford a new car, so I will have to get it fixed up. I've got a photo but even whan I save it as small on Pbucket it seems too big for this post.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Help for a Novice - Ignition barrel problem
if you look at how the housing is fitted to the steering its by 2 security bolts , if you use a centre punch to start them off they come out really easily so you should be easy enough to undo on a scrap car .once off just go to any vauxhall dealer and buy 2 new bolts ,the new ones will come with 13 mm heads on fit them and when tight enough the heads will shear off for security reasons simple job to do and wont take more than an hour to complete
