Engine Management Light!

I drive a 98 'S' reg corsa b, and always when im driving the engine management light comes on on the dash, but if i drop a gear and give it a good rev it goes away.. but anyone any ideas what this actually means and what could be wrong with it? This is happening everytime im out in the car.

IT COULD BE 101 THINGS MATE, BUT IF THE EML HAS COME ON IT MEANS THE ECU HAS STORED A FAULT CODE. TAKE IT TO A GARAGE AND GET A DIOGNOSTICS TEST DONE. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IF YOU DONT GET A DIOGNOSTICS DONE U CUD SPEND A FORTUNE ON PARTS COS ITS PRITTY MUCH A GUESSING GAME.
