break in damaged ignition feed

Something tried to steal my car, in the process they ripped the column to bits before realising there was an immobiliser and they couldn't drive it away. I managed to piece it all together, with the immobiliser and everything. There is a switch unit (I think) on the opposite side of the column to the key. I glued this bits together and fitted it in place (sounds dodgy) but everything worked, the only problem is the ignition feed to the stereo no longer works, this was about 18months ago, it hasn't been a problem until I just bought a vauxhall cd player, I now have to input the code, but it doesn't work without an ingnition feed, does anybody know how to change this switch unit on the column? Is this likely to cause a problem such as breaking the ignition feed to the stereo, I have also noticed the things that didn't work without the ignition on, now work all the time, main beam lights, cigarette lighter and full beam lights. But the lights on buzzer still works without the ignition? I think I need to change the switch unit, but once I had put it in place I can't remove it.
Any help appreciated.
