Hi folks my little 1.0 gls w reg is really struggling to start when cold, the engine starts first time but bounces around and seems to drop revs until it stalls.
If i start the car with my foot on accelerator it starts fine and and will idle just above 1000rpm once accelerator has been held for a few minutes.
Also if idling if i turn on a few things like lights etc the idle speed dips to almost stalling the car also occasionally hesitates while going slow in a higher gear.
Any ideas of the first thing to check???

Is eml on, i'd try get a reader on it and see what it comes up with, ive had similar prob with idle air control valve (hesitation and poor starting) but could be a number of things. good luck.

Gonna try new plugs tommorrow took the idle control valve off for a clean which i thought you couldent do on the 1.0 12v but you can? This didnt help just dont want to have to blindly replace sensors like other forums have said!

I had this with my 1.2 16v, Get the air mass sensor changed. You can pick them up for around £30 on ebay (maybe cheaper) and it should sort the problem out fine.
i had all of the problems you listed until one day it used to ignite the engine then stall straight away!!!! Real pain to drive to a garage as had to keep the accelerator pedal pressed down to keep revs up and prevent instant stall!!!!
Changes this part and it should sort it??
Hope this helps.
