ok the cheapest engine will be the C20SEH basically a 2l 8v, but if your going for an engine get the 16v or a turbo.
now you dont have to change the clocks over
Things needed to be changed -
Hubs,
drive shafts
gear box mount needs a spacer
the gear linkage needs to be extended
a 1.4 or higher raidator
acellrator cable off donor car,
wireing loom and ecu,
breaks NEED up rating
suspension needs up rating too
exhuast needs modifying to match up to your existing piping
thats all i can think of at the mo but if no more comes back to me i will post it up
you can buy a conversion kit from regal auto sport or M-Tech

in all honestly, you are better off tuning a small block like a 1.6, once tuned you can get the same power out put as a 2ltr with less weight.

no point wasting money n tuning mods for a 1.4 when your not going to make it any faster, if you want to mae it faster #, ya need a calli/cav or astra redtop in.

the best 2L engine to put in for power is the redtop engine. you can pick them up for £100-300.
A 2L 8v (SEH 130BHP) is a goos second choice, but will always be a second. They go for £50-200, so really you\'re not saving any money, as the conversion kit is the true cost.
It\'s true to say a small block engine tuned to good degree gives a better drive for those who intend to trackday and rally/sprint etc.. but it\'s hard to justifuy spending £3000+ on a 1.4 or 1.6 engine, unless you know that is what you want to do.
For most road drivers, a 2L is fine and you won\'t really notice the handling issues of the exctra 90KGS in the front of the car.
Just be sure to carry out maintaince on the engine before it goes in, new timign belt roller, water pump, oil change and filter. and check for oil leaks, all this will save headaches in the near future.
I know mileage is an issue, but really provided the engine are well serviced they will see you to 150k-200k without an issue. My girlfriends astra originally mine has a 144k 20Xe in it, and is now in excess of 155k with no issues. I\'m not saying if I stuck TB\'s etc, on it would last long, but in std tune (airfilter and exhaust doesn\'t count) they will pretty mcuh live for ever.
As for speedo\'s, you just plug in the sendor to the box, and if it\'s an iductive pick up then you need to get hold of a mech and elec sesnor and hook the leccy dash to that.

I suppose that was pretty unfair for me to comment about the small blocks as it is one sided on my behalf as my 1.6 will be tuned for track days.
but fair comments on the rest of what you said.

well my car beats all other 1.4 8v up here that i have raced so it keeps me happy
my boyfriend has a 2.0ltr 16v red top in his cav which is chipped, which i might be able to have if he gets rid of the car (which he probably won\'t )

Dblias do an inlet manifold that gives a claimed 22ps increase. That on a 1.6 would put it up there with the red top wouldn\'t it. A few other mods like new exhaust manifold, Cams and ecu ect would work and quicker due to the reduced weight and cheaper wouldn\'t it?
I\'ve got a 1.4 16v and don\'t know what to do to mine. Might tune this engine and see what i can get out of it.

Max output isn\'t the only thing to be considered. It\'s fair to say a 1.6 can be tuned up to 150BHPish, but the delivery will be peaky and won\'t be the nicest car to mince around in. Where as a 2L will have a better spread of power across the revs.
The first thing I always notice driving any car with a big-sih engine, is you dont\' need to drop a gear if you slow down, you cann just mince off in the same gear.
Plus the econmics of it all also dictate to an extent your choice.
1.6 with cams inlet, chip labour is well over 1000 more to ward 1300 really.
Now a 2L conversion can be done for under 800 running and fitted.
Provided you are 21ish and have at least a yrs no claims the insurance jump is not very big.
The only possible advantage of a smaller engine would be cheap tax, which the 1.6 is not. you have to have a 1400cc or less engine for that. and in a corsa, it still won\'t be too quick. That\'s after trying a 130BHP 1.4 in a stripped out corsa sport, was still getting raped by a nova with a 1.4 8v in it, a std one!!
So if you want a corsa that\'s fast for the the road, then 2L, if you want one fast for the track, put the engine in a nova then tune it.
