Engine cutting out - Crank Sensor

This is not a queery regarding a problem with my car, but it could just possibly help someone with what I encountered.
I have a V reg 1.2 16v Corsa. On a recent journey the engine cut out 3 times within 6 miles, and on each occassion prior to this the engine revved up (to about 4200rpm) on its own. I eventually called out the AA ( response time 40 mins!). I told the mechanic what the problem was and he immediately said "Crank sensor - common problem with these cars". He then plugged his code reader into my car and this did indeed come up with this fault.
Anyhow it took him about 7-8 mins to jack up the car and change the sensor, at a reasonable cost of £21. He followed me home - anther 6 miles, with no repeat of any problems.
