Usually means you engine managment light is missing. Happened with me. Was a nice little way that the guy covered up the EGR fault.
P0505 - (0) idle control blocked
I think theres a post about cleaning this somewhere, do a search on the forum

Have a look at the faqs on here, there are guides to cleaning the icv or idle control valve, there is also a guide to cleaning the egr valve, and if that doesn't help your problems then there is a guide to blanking it off.
You have a problem with the mass airflow sensor, or MAS or MAF for short. This can cause your kangaroo aceleration as does the problem with the egr valve.
If you care to give me an old email address, I will send you a pdf. document with information on sensors, this could well help you out. 50 mile on a tenner is a bit low, the maf is giving the wrong info to the icu, which is causing the mixture to be too rich, therefore you are burning too much fuel.

The file is on its way, make sure and check your junk mail just in case it lands in there.
Just get in contact if you need it again.
