how do you know your emissions are bad? has it been in for an mot or are you just looking at the exhaust? if your worried about a lot of smoke, then don't, or at least don't while your car is cold, the heat passing through the exhaust causes it all to get condesation on it hense the excess amount of smoke, if the engine is hot and the exhaust has warmed up and theoretically got rid of condesation then it could be something else, the cat just takes away bad gasses basically, lambda sensor just checks to see how much of each gas is passing through.
hope that helps

yeah what squisheh said lol but also by "when im driving my exhaust emmisions seem quit bad!" do you mean there is alot of smoke from your exhaust if so maybe air/fuel mixture is out to much oil etc etc that could be it
