my gf has a 1.4 8v automatic, today she picked me up and we went to her parents house, when leaving the heating never come on at all, then later on i let the car warm up while de-icing the windows, just going up the road i noticed the temp was shot up and wanted to overheat but luckily i court it and stopped the engine, i brought some new anti-freeze just to get me home but it lookd like some/all the water from the header had emptied out, but i couldnt tell as there was no lighting around to check. what could this be? and if this is the heather matrix failing n leaking where is it placed and how much work is involved into fixing this myself? or could this be any other problem

checked the header tank today after leaving it over night and all the anti-freeze has gone. could this be a possible water hose split or something more major ?

or coolant on the floor, and the heater matrix is behind the dash so if your floor is all wet then that should be to blame, but it does sound as tho you have a leak, how much water do you have to put back in tho after it has all gone out of the header tank to get it back up to its normal level?
