1.2 8v themostat

1.2 8v themostat
i want to change the themostat to take out the theory that its not working as the temp rockets up, how would i go about doing this at all, as i cant seem to find it on side of the engine at all.

hi there mate iv got same problem wanna change the stat but its not your usuall small 5 minute job. bassiclay you have to remove the fan belt then unscrew the timing belt cover take the timing belt off take the top camshaft sprocket off then remove rear timing belt cover and the stat is located there its such a stupid place to put something like that. what exactly is the problem with your stat? mines does not open to it hits 100c then it fluctuates between 96 to 98c seem to be getting slight engine detonation when i feather the gas and engine is hot so im putting it down to the stat. would be intresting to hear if you have same problem? cheers.

well i let it idle and its fine til it gets hot then rockets up car, have checked the water is circulating which by the looks it is. so i want to change the themostat to get it out the way and see if its replaced does it still do it. if it does then ill look at other ideas, why its not cooling down.
