I have a cooling problem on my corsa, it has the 1.0l engine. The problem I have is it doesn't get warm,( the heaters work ok) after about 30 mins of driving the temp gauge is just reaching 90C.

I've swapped the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor, which made no difference.

With the thermostat out of the car if I fill the thermostat up with water in the housing water leaks through. So when its in the car the radiator instantly starts getting warm.

Surely the stat shoud stay shut and only open letting water in the radiator when the engine is up to temp.

Is the thermostat supposed to seal when closed? if it is then I'll need another new thermostat.

mine does the same, i thourght it was something to do with the thermostat n whatever, turns out its not so im not quite sure what it is

Funnily enough I've a similar problem with a 1.4 LS auto , X14SZ engine.

Just bought the car for my daughter over Xmas, the temperature gauge wasnt working at first so i bought a new sensor which now shows the engine doesnt get to 90 under normal running, but when Im stationary for a little while it starts to register and eventualy goes into the red - the fan switch isnt working either so next thing on my list.

I thought it might be the wrong sensor but I notice that the heater in the car isnt that hot either when driving but does get warmer as the engine gets warmer under idle conditions which appears to match the temperature gauge

Is this standard for these cars?

pus a new thermostat in it ,the engine cooling fan wont work untill its over 102 degrees so unless your stuck in heavy traffic the chances of it working in this weather are virtually nil

Ive bought a new thermostat for the radiator fan switch - so do u think i need a new stat for the engine - bearing in mind the normal running temps below 90?

Just fitted new radiator with new switch for fan - fan still does not switch on when gauge is showing it being over 100. Now shorted fan out so runs all the time - any ideas why switch not working - is the temperature gauge not showing the correct temp? or is the new switch faulty or could it be the engine thermostat?

I kinda have to same thing, my car does not reach 90 degrees when driving but still builds up heat when stationary and then fan kicks in at about 95 degrees. I did not really pay attention to this as it never seemed to be a problem and car always worked fine.
