my vauxhall corsa b 1.0 keeps surging and looses power ive removed the standard air box and filter and added a induction filter also removed the airflow valve as the air filter was causing it problems the engine managment light is still on as the wire from the air flow valve is still there just disconected but iv removed the air flow valve its self,need some advice please????

you mean you've removed the air flow meter? akathe bit that tells the ecu and the rest of the engine how much air its sucking in? how does the ecu know how much fuel to mix with that air?

get rid of the daft filter, stick the air flow meter back on and use the standard air box. its a 1.0 a "performence" air filter is gona have no effect on it what so ever.

top tip for next time, if your engines running fine until you put a filter on it, chances are its the filter thats the problem.

them 1 litre engines dont like any performance air filters, sticj with the standard air box, if you want a bit of noise drill a few holes in the side and put the air flow meter back on

i did put the standard filter back on but its f**k something up and theres no power at all really so i put the apex back on and it makes a difference but now its started playin up but been runing it for months wi no problem lol,iv done same on ma other corsa but its got a c220 let in that n its a 95 so not as many electronics on it to mess up and thats been runing fine cheers for your help

dont know what iv damaged but now when i put air flow meter back on and standard airbox it keeps loosing power and get engine man light on??

probly damaged the air flow meter when you had the filter on it.

wont drilling the standard airbox f**k it up just like having the performance filter on it?and also any1 know a way of geting the air flow meter apart without having the security bit to undo it?and is there anyway to clean it coz dont really wana pay £100 for a new 1 lol

1.0 cars watever the make won't go any faster with any mods really, they simply made to get to a-b thats it, if you want faster, get car with bigger engine in it lol, if you mess about with the engine and have no idea of the consequences of your actions, then you end up regretting it in the end and may cost you more money to fix it.

i dont think you can take them mass flow meters apart i think the only thing you may get away with is perhaps spraying some brake and clutch cleaer where you can see the two wires maybe there clogged up but if that dont work then your have to get a new
have a look on ebay im sure they go for cheaper but saying that my mate bought one of ebay and it was crap so he had to go buy a genuine one.

if the Filter was secound hand one thats a pitty as that would of been the cause.
1: Go buy some CARB cleaner
2: Clean the AFM
3: Clean the ICV


seems alot on here have the same issue's but no one thinks of cleaning what beyond one thing.
after the AFM theres the ICV both of these control the cars performance.

AFM tells the ecu to control mass air and fuel consumtion
ICV tells the car how to perform its power with a steady tick over.
both control the cars balance.

a guy replied it doesnt help with preformance totally agree with him,
its a 1.0 only thing your gonna do with it is waste money on fuel for no performance
as theres no power behind it.
try cleaning both of what ive said,
and then connect the AFM back on without the hose and airbox start the car
and spray 3 little bursts while its running. you will here a change in the revs but it will settle back down,
once settled turn it off and connect the hose and airbox back on normal service should resume.
no point going out buying new shi* untill you try cleaning what controls your car
