Clunking on the front

Hi All,

Recently I have been hearing a clunking noise on the front, especially when parking up or setting off slowly, seems to be coming from the wheels and is a rather loud clunk noise, almost sounds/feels like something is slipping?

You can also hear it when parked up, if you turn the wheel left to right, Also I have had someone inside the car doing it while i've been outside and you can seem to hear it more in the middle of car? Have been down near both front wheels where you can hear it, but sounds even from the middle.

Is there anything that I can get under the car and check ?

Another problem I seem to be having are rear wheel bearings !

I have had them replaced a few times and every few month they seem to be dieing out eg rumbling noise.

Is it just a case of replacing the bearings and thats it, or does the centre nut need tightening up a little more once the bearings worn in ? Which iv heard. If this is the case do you think it is ok to tighten the nut up a little now as I am starting to hear a little rumble, or would it be best to replace the bearings and then re-tighten after say 100miles?

Thanks for any help !

I have this EXACT same problem with the clunking. Was going through a drive through the other day and it sounded horrendous! Would be really interested to know what it is! :s

jack the front of the car up and give the wheels a good shake, turn the wheel full look and shake it again. see if you can see or here anything

my car does the same at the moment on full lock at the moment, i think its te drive shaft on its limit because my tracking needs doin.

Forgot to mention, you also hear the noise when changing gears. And the wheel pulls either left of right a little also.

Cheers.

Jacked the car up on both sides, on the drivers side only on full lock either side could i hear a "rubbing" noise, from the middle, the drive shaft ? Sounds/Looks like its rubbing with that little boot cover cap thing.

Passenger side all seems ok on full lock on either side, but noticed when i shaking and pushing, the wheel kinda went inwords, presume this is ok though, guess it meant to be like that when its on the road to compensate for bumps etc on the suspension ?

Cheers.
