Hey there,
In a morning, every morning, I get in my car, start up and the revs are high (around 1200-1300 RPM) if I give my car a rev it will refuse to rev above 2500-3000 RPM until I do this twice and then all is ok. It's almost like something is sticking and then unsticks after a couple of presses on the accelerator.
Anyway, this has become routine and every morning it is fine after a couple of revs however I came to it this morning and had to rev it 8 or 9 times... After the 9th time the EML light illuminated for about 5 seconds, went out and everything was normal... And has ran nicely all day.
I really don't know where to start so any advice would be a massive help as I don't want to leave it anymore and one day be totally stuck!
My car has had a new air filter, Mass air flow meter and crankshaft sensor recently if this is any help!
Thanks in advance everyone!
Strange problem!! Help please!

Re: Strange problem!! Help please!
what engine is it? i would say for a quick guess that it would be the throttle position sensor maybe? orrr it could be the block temperature sensor behind the inlet at the back of the engine, this can make the engine run funny. but first what engine you got?

Sorry ! Forgot key info lol. It's a 98 1.0 12v. Could it be anything to do with the IACV?

Had a very similar problem to yours with my 1.0L 12v.
Change the Idle Control Air Valve.
Seriously i changed mine and i havent had any problems since, also makes your engine sound better.
Heres a cheap new one for you that fits your model (Paid £55 for mine)

That's great mate thanks! Could I not clean it and try? I might nip to a scrappy and try and get a replacement today as I'm off on holiday Friday and would love it to be fixed for then! Was your car doing the same tricks then?

Re: Strange problem!! Help please!
I have heard that cleaning it can help but it will come back sooner than if you brought a new one.
Yeah id do a 20 mile trip to my college and back then get in my car half hour later to go shop and it would rev up stupidly high. Would also rev when i had my clutch down coming up to junctions. Got out of hand so changed the valve and had no problems since.
My uncle has also had similar issues in his previous cars and has found changing the valve sorting them straight out.
