Hi all my corsa B (P reg) runs ok but when idle the temperature gague goes through the roof to the red, I think the fan isn't coming on? I drove 20 miles fine, then on return stuck in traffic and temp gauge was on red, started driving when no traffic and temp gauge dropped to normal temp. Any advice would be appreciated

corsa's are none for overheating/ temp rising in the traffic that i know of, best soluation would be put a manual switch on it for traffic.

I had pretty much the same problem with my car overheating. There were a few parts that could be causing it. I suggest looking at the fan switch which is located on the side of the radiator, if this is not functioning properly then it will not instruct the fan to switch on causing the engine to overheat very quickly. A fan switch for a corsa b is only about £15.

If it is not the fan switch then it could be actual fan itself. Take the fan out, run two cable from the battery; positive and negative (Wearing rubber gloves or something, safety first) then use the other ends of the cable to 'bump' the fan. Put the negative cable on one of the pins for the connector on the fan and then tap the other pin with the positive cable. If the fan starts spinning then the fan works alight but if not, you will then need a new fan for your car.

Cheers for info. Its not the gasket at moment, and my mechanic said change thermostat and fan switch and while timing belt if off change the water pump £80 labour?

If been driving round and overheating when idle how much damage is caused and do I really need the water pump replaced just more expense?

Sorry mate muckd up last post. Sounds like ur fan switch aint turning ur fan on at rite temp should hear it spinning at bout 100c mine is screwed i fink too dnt cum on to 106c should be 100c tho. Also if ur car runs at decent temp rest of time ideally bout 92 to 94c i would suggest ur stat n pump r gd! Tho if ur due a timing belt change sn get the pump n stat done to at same time if u wana change stat only u dnt have to take of all belt n go through hassle off re timing and tensioning engine and belt. U cn just take of camshaft sprocket n prnviding u r carefull u cud diy in 20min if u want me to talk u through process let me knw done mine 2month bk saved 130bux n carz still runing spot on;)

I am gonna test the cooling fan switch located right hand end of radiator by disconnnecting the wiring plug from the cooling fan switch and bridging the wiring plug with a wire.

Only im not sure what wire to use????
