Oil leak from sump gasket

Hi,

I've been to the garage about a slow oil leak. Mechanic says the leak is so small he can't even locate it exactly. I haven't seen any drips on the road (only fresh oil around the bottom of the sump) and it isn't losing oil on small trips, only on long journeys i.e 100 miles or more.

Is this anything major to worry about? And what steps should I take?

I to had a oil leak similar to what you describe i thought it was sump gasket but once i got under and had a gd look it turned out to be oil pressure switch! If your getting a flickiring oil light on dash when u idle after a half hour drive change the switch:)

or if your feeling really up for it, change the sump gasket aswell, that should stop it, but if your still noticing that your loosing oil and your sumps dry then id say you're buring it,

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm most likely burning it, but gonna get an oil and filter change, also a sump seal and see if this helps.

i had an oil leak so i changed the sump and gasket the sumps are made out of aluminium well on my W reg it is im not sure about others but aluminiums no good its like tinfoil so as soon as i changed mine it was leaking again but due to the slightest slit in the sump so i just put heat paste on it worked haha
