Hey people,

Planning a complete oil change in my 1998 1.0 12v. Could anyone please tell me what the correct grade of oil is to use?? And any possibility of a quick guide on a full change? Never done it before!

Also, can anyone tell me the correct tyre pressures for this model?

Thanks!

I have no idea what oil you would need in your car as I have been trying to find this out myself as my oil in my car is beginning to get a little low.

The tyre pressures for your car are as follows. Usually it should be around 32 PSI on the front and about 38 PSI on the back, this is what I usually have on a day to day basis. If you have more than 3 people in the car with a heavy load in the boot it will usually be about 36 PSI on the front and about 40PSI on the back. But you would only need to put it up to this pressure if it will be a long journey.

For a better idea of what you need to have, I would check the manual for your car. If you don't have one, then there should one you might be able to download on the internet.

Check out the castrol website theres thing on that u can type in ur car reg and it comes up the best oil to use! Although you cant knock gtx 10/40w for a good all rounder iv used it 4 yearz gd stuff! Pretty easy to do oil change! Make sure ur oil is warm (take it a quick spin) jack car up undo sump bolt make sure u got a old basin n rags to catch spilt oil then undo ur filter! Let it all drain out then put new oil filter on followed by sump bolt with new sealing washer and fill up with ur fresh oil! You can also get a engine flush to get rid of gunk build up. Gd luck!

I was just giving an example on what I put in my car as I usually have passengers. But if you don't have any on a day to day basis, then it won't need to be that high.
As always, your manual should tell you the correct pressures.

and oil the normal is 15w40 and i tend to run 40 all round on my corsa, but i have been running 32 all round just lately, if you want economy then go harder, if you want traction then go softer say 27ish

I have to say having the tyre pressure up does save a bit of fuel, my tyre pressure is currently at 42 PSI on the back and about 40 on the front. Although the ride is a little rough at times.

Hmmm.. So I often have the mrs, toddler, pram, etc. 38 F 36r sound ok? I'm looking for fuel economy to be honest so... With regards to the oil change... Roughly How long do you think it will this take? Got Sunday off work but rushing around so I might get a couple of hours free at some point!

15 mins, just start the engine, let oil get warm, then drain it out, and re-fill it.

I've been thinking of getting one actually! Sweet, so is it necessary to change the filter while I'm at it? I may aswel hadn't I? Only a few quid eh. Will I feel any noticeable difference in the general feel of the car from a full change? I've had it since september and done 7k and still haven't changed it! Sorry for all the questions guys lol!

Thanks!

yea change the filer otherwise there wouldnt be any point in changing the oil, and you wont feel anything, its just giving your engine some clean oil basically lol its the same as us humans drinking water lol we like it clean =]

I did my oil last week. Put 10W40 semi synthetic in, new oil (just need a 35mm spanner to loosen off the oil filter housing), torx bit to remove the sump nut. Bought a new sump nut and washer as they both were worse for wear on my car!

And in terms of tyre pressures I do roughly 32/33 at the front and 28/30 at the rear. That's for normal driving which is just me, or me and one passenger. If I'm having a full load for extended period of time I push the back up 3/4 psi. This is based on the guidance the guy at my local tyre garage gave me, he said just give the front the extra 3/4 psi to handle the weight of the engine :)
