Help!

Getting desperate so hopefully this forum can help below is my problem and things i have tried by peoples advive which have not worked!
Problem:
Hi Guys i have a 1996 1.2 corsa i have a ongoing problem that started a few weeks ago the car sounds thou its high revving then cuts out and sounds like its missing and wont start i disconnect the battery for half a hour and it drives perfect and gets me home! then 1 hour later again same problem after taking some advice i have changed the carbretta worked for a while then back to the same problem i have also changed the temp sensor again worked for a while then same problem i just wondered if anyone can help who may have come across the same problem somebody has mentioned crankshaft sensor but thats about it. so basically its stuck high revving until it floods and spits and spulters and then wont start for a while. The car has only done 33000 miles but was left stood for a while until i bought it.
Tried soultions from advice:
By disconnecting the battery you are clearing the ecu of any fault codes, and resetting it, so in theory (famous last words) there will be a code showing which will point you in the right direction.
Thanks for the reply we have had it on a code reader and it brings nothing up at all so frustrating!
A bit more info might help - eg is yours the engine with a distributor or does it have the DIS module on the n/s end of the head? One has a crankshaft sensor, the other doesn't - but if that fails then usually its a case of not running rather than over revving.
It could be the ICV as AJ suggests, but the symptoms don't sound typical of ICV problems (eg it wouldn't usually flood). One way to check is to let the engine warm up then unplug the ICV, which ought to then freeze at that setting. So if you get the over revving with ICV disconnected then it's not the ICV. It might be the throttle position sensor, but I'd expect there to be a code if that was the case.
Thanks for the help, iv done a few more test, the idle control valve seems to be working fine as i took it off when the engine has warm and it made no difference and when i took the ICV when idling out and it moves in and out as it should. The tps sensor is reading fine on live data along with coolant temp and o2 sensor. Iv checked the air filter and spark plugs, air filter is fine spark plugs are black from overflooding although i have cleaned them up a couple times.
You've checked a lot of the obvious things. And you say you've fitted a new injector assembly (what I guess you meant by the 'carburettor').
I think I'd check the MAP sensor next, and check around the throttle body and inlet manifold for any signs of leaks.
Thanks for the info again MAP sensor is fine! running out of things to check what else could cause the revs to go high randomly and the car spit and spluter just dont make sense i have just drove it around the block and its fine but bet your bottom dollar it will do it again next time.
