Typical.......

Post by GavTheMighty »

Well as some of you may have read I bought a 1998 Vauxhall corsa b 1.0 3 cyl in white.

The car had a few issues which I sorted out and it's been running lovely ever since so I decided to do the full service get the tracking and balacning done on my new tyres to finish her off. Quite litrally the only mark on the whole car was a very small dent on the drivers wing which I usually had to point out to people to spot it..................And the car only has 52k miles on the clock. Got it for £450 so overall I was pleased.

And then.......................Broken into second car in under a year some thiefs have tried the steal the car by hotwiring it they failed but have done some damage.

Ripped the Steering column off and taken that with them Police told me they do that as it's the one area they leave prints on when trying to hotwire. One wire cut to what looks like the ignition switch and the Ignition barrel won't turn as I am guessing they forced the wheel to break the steering lock. Spoke to a few mobile mechanics and they have all said the same that I would pretty much need to change the entire system. Ignition Barrel and switch and steering column. I still havent been able to locate a Steering column cover bottom half but I have ordered an Igniton barrel and 2 keys, Ignition switch, and steering column. Thing is I was kinda in a bit of distress and at the time just thinking about how I would like to kill the thiefs so not 100% about a few things.

They bent the door back a little with probably a crowbar to life the latch but that seems to be minor cosmetic and more noticeable from the inside than out. So not going to worry about that right now door still opens and closes and the locks work etc.

As far as I am aware my car has no airbag and it's not powersteering thats for sure so I have bought the correct Steering column I think. What I wanted to ask is I thought these keys have transponders in them so if I use the new ignition barrel with 2 keys that I have purchased will it not have a problem as the ECU won't respond to those keys? I thought it also had a built in immobilisor? God this couldn't have come at a worse time especially as I am moving in 3 weeks (To a much better area also f*****g scum round here!)

P.S if anyone happens to have a Steering Column cover for sale for a 1.0 non powersteering, non-airbag 1998 corsa let me know please.

Gav.
