help changed water pump now wont start

i changed water pump today as was leaking, followed step by step in haynes now wont start, ive checked all cables are connected etc, its the 1litre 1997, would appreciate some help, it attempts to start but stalls straight away, takes bit of throttle to get to start but will not run more than few seconds, will not start without throttle,

if it terns over than it could be when the water pissed all over the crank pick up if it,s not got a dissy if it dus dry out the cap. than clean the crank pick up and the plug
