Took it for m.o.t they said it failed by emissions very highly We fitted a new cat and lambda sensor and new spark plugs but it still failed on emissions highly! We have now chnaged the EGR valve and waitin t get it bk into m.o.t do u think it will pass noww??? Or amy ideas as to what else it could be failin on?

i doubt it'll pass emissions again.

look for a dodgy garage lol. i had to rebuild the engine to get mine to pass

give it a hell of a good thrash up next to the limiter on the way to the MOT station

stick in bout tenner of petrol and almost a full bottle of redex. i know it says it does 2 tanks but just do it to the mot centre and back then go put fuel. it takes emissions down like fook

what part of the emissions is it failing on?

have you got the figures from the emissions report?

lady at my work had a saxo that was running sky high on emissions and she stuck in a full bottle of redex and 10 of petrol and emissions were low as hell. but make sure you put a good 20 quid in after the mot because redex is meant to be diluted a fair bit

Co 0.550 ish but was hitting 2
Lambda was about 1.5 and hc was about 150

does your engine have a missfire?

well its passed it on the hc hasnt it cause its got to be less than 200?

co has to be be less than 0.5 at idle and 0.3 at fast idle i think. and with your lambda reading being high as well my guess would be you need a new cataltic converter - also i suppose cleaning the egr can only help

because the hc is passing its not the engine burning oil that is causing it to fail so i reckon it must be somet to do with the exhaust system. i'd suggest hammering the engine just before you take it in and i mean absolutely hammering it and also try unplugging the MAF. when i took mine in and it was failing slightly the tester let me change things on the engine to try and get it to pass and when i unpluigged the MAF it dropped just low enough to pass. also if its possible when the guy tests it turn the heaters on full blast and the lights on. believe it or not this reduces the engine power and the emissions.

i've also heard of someone drilling a hole in the back of the catalytic converter to cure this problem but would not do this myself as its an mot fail if they see it - so at your own risk mate.

still crnt get my car to pass on emissions and have tryed:

full bottle of redx and £15 of petrol
piston ring seal
standard back box
new lambda sensor and cat
had the inlet manifold lookd at for leaks
dyno to sort over fueling out (runs much better and plugs are now how they should be)

it passed on idle but not fast idle :/

fast idle co 0.55
lambda 1.06

2nd fast idle
co 0.61
lambda 1.05
just taken it to midpoint garage (vauxhall specialist) and they say it cud be manifold leak or vacuum pipes.

does enybody know where i can get a diagram of the vacuum pipes for a 1.6 16v or any other ideas, thanks

u must be goin some strick garage, most will let that go, mine passed with higher emissions than that
