EPS fitting/ECU reset + indicator cancel

Hi to all, first time posting.
I experienced the power steering failure (light on left side, heavy and sticking to the right), however wasn't able to fix the problem through torque sensor adjustment. I purchased a brand new column from old stock for a very reasonable price (checked part code with Vauxhall dealership, everything checks out). The column has the same part number as the one taken out and looks 'almost' identical but had some small differences in shaft length. I assume some improvements were made by GM over the years. However, this led to a problem when fitting that the indicator canceller doesn't reach the back of the stick any more. Is there a part I need to replace the original? Or any bodging that needs to be done?
Also the steering is now relatively heavy in both ways. I can feel that the steering is being assisted going around in circles at low speed, however, when driving on motorways and A roads it feels like there is much more resistance. Do I need to some sort of EPS ECU reset or...?
All suggestions welcome, I've spent about £700 on the consumables from brakes and suspension to belts and filters, and don't want to fall out with it and get rid!
