loose dipstick tube

I've got a 1.0L 12V corsa B. The bolt at the top of the dipstick won't stay in the hole in the exhaust manifold behind the heatshield because the thread is stripped, so the dipstick tube is free at the top, its not bolted to anything. Will it work loose? If the dipstick tube comes out of the sump, will there be a big oil leak? Wondering how serious this is.

How long has yours run without the dipstick being bolted at the top?

a long time lol. it wont work loose quickly either. if it did it'd be over a long period of time and as you have a 1.0 i assume you have to check the oil alot so you'd notice it. does the bolt not screw in at all.

Bolt won't screw in at all, I think the first couple of threads are messed up. I'm going to try tapping it if possible, although its in a difficult location to work on without taking the whole manifold off. Anyway thanks for your reply, I've driven around in it this afternoon and no leaks so seems ok. Obviously its not ideal but doesn't seem to be working loose. I read elsewhere that to change it is just a push-fit, which is why I was a bit worried, of course it vibrates with the engine, don't want it coming out while driving. Hopefully I can put a tap in to clean the thread and then get the bolt in.
