Is there a sure fire way to check if your exhaust or manifold is blowing?
When the engine is straining is when you can year it most but sometimes you can't hear the noise at all.

not really... rub your hand across the manifold feeling for air, or droop some fabric and watch for movement, its not a hard job to just change the gasket as its a row of bolts,

Easy Enough - If You Have 2 people, One Can Cover the exhaust and if its leaking it wont throw your hand off the exhaust!
but it might be a slight leak....the other person checks for a leak as it will be pressurized because it hasnt got nowhere to go!!

and yea the 1.6 16v are good engines, like any other vauxhall 16v engine, AS LONG AS YOU LOOK AFTER THEM they are ok, if its high mileage put a FULL cambelt and kit on it as its the tensioners that go on them mostly and then make the belt go slack and jump teeth, but yea they're good engines and have loads of potential depending how much money your willing to chuck at it, as when vauxhall first invented them they were producing more power than the XE then they restricted it loads as they wanted them to be smaller... god knows why but they did.

Well i think the fact that i'm willing to get the 1.6 shows i want to throw money into the car. Thinking of keeping my corsa as a weekend car when i have a few years no claims.
Whats roughly the going rate of one? because i've had a browse on ebay and can't find one...
