1998 Corsa B Handbrake Light on

Hi Guys,

Have a 1998 Corsa B 1.0 X10XE and when I drive it the handbrake light will sometimes stay on unless I push the handbrake down hard.

Sometimes, I can just put it down normally and the light goes off, but then we might go over a speed bump or something and it will come back on.

Gives me the impression that it think it is being pressed down enough, handbrake works and sounds fine, never had a problem, just annoying more than anything!

Guy told me it should just need adjusting, I'm not car-minded, so wonder if anyone had any ideas how to adjust it?

Thanks

Scott

Just a quick thought.Check the level of your brake fluid in the resevoir as many cars illuminate the same bulb for low brake fluid and handbrake on. It could be yours is low.

Another thing can cause this is if the rear brakes have not been adjusted properly at the drums/shoes and someone has made all the adjustment on the handbrake cable. It makes it so there is no movement left at the the brake shoes for the cable to go back any more and so it push the lever up a little. Happens on a lot of drum brake systems that have been adjusted incorrectly. You should let all the adjustment off the cable then set up the shoes correctly, don't rely on the self adjuster cuz they are pretty wank and barely work properly, once you have that right then adjust the cable. If you have a lip on the brake drums it will cause problems setting up the shoes though.
