had this prob for a while now but seems to be getting worse. when i try to start the car it turns over fine but wont catch. it doesnt sound as though the starter isnt catching but actually sounds normal.there doesnt seem to be a smell of fuel as if i'm flooding it either. if i bump it it will catch straight away at quite a low speed so it doesnt need a good run up. if i then turn it off it will re-start fine. runs fineit was only doing this when the engine was very hot as i took it to spain and it needed to cool a little before it would start on the key but it seemed to be fine for the last few months. and now it just wont start unless bumped. i hope someone can help as its cold at half 2 in the morning when i set off to work and too cold to cycle lol  . if you need any more info then i will try to help. thanks in advance

if you've got a local garage take it to them. im not that brilliant with machanics but it could be the starter motor not functioning properly?....

thanks for the replies. the starter turns the engine fine. i can sit there for five minuits turning the engine and pumping the accelerator and it wont start but when i bump it it catches immideatly. also there doesnt seem to be any smell of fuel when i do this so im starting to wonder ifd its a relay or servo or something :meh: . and i think i forgot to mention but when it wont start i get a clicking from around the fuse box as its turning over . possibly the fi relay. tried replacing it but still no joy and as it is an intermittant fault it means i have to wait till the next time it does it. :(
