A non starter......

Hi everyone, I wonder if i can call on your experiences............
My 1.2 16v Breeze was left at my parents for a few months. The new battery was left in the car but the negative lead was disconected. I started it every couple of weeks and it always fired up first time. I decided to put some rent on it and use it a bit, so i picked it up from my parents. It started and drove perfectly. I parked it outside my house while i arranged the car on my driveway. 10 minutes later i went out and it wouldn't start. I left it for sometime and went back to it and it fired up ok. Its starting has been very hit and miss and now won't turn over at all. As i mentioned, the battery is new (checked voltage), connections ar good, new crank position sensor and this morning a brand new starter motor.............i turn the key and nothing. I do hear a feint click from the right hand side of the engine. When i turn the key to the crank position the EML doesn't flash. I have just had the thought of bypassing the igniton circuit by turning the ignition on and put a cable between the posititve side of the battery on to the starter terminal.
Can anyone give me a clue of what could be going amiss???
Many thanks in advance.
