Faulty engine

Hi there
This morning i went to view a corsa b 1.4 sport, the engine had a loud knocking noise (which the seller claimed was a faulty oil pump)
We went for a drive and he car seemed fine in he low revs but seemed to be lacking power at around 4k, i then asked for a drive and when i got to third gear the engine management light came on, then the oil light and then the car died and wouldnt start again. Is it worth trying to fix the engine or should i consider buying a new engine? The car itself is immaculate apart from the engine.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
many thanks,
Fraser
