Not having much luck with cars....Warning Light on Dashboard

I drive a 1995 Corsa Sport 1.4, an amber light (engine symbol with a what looks like a lightening bolt in the middle) has come one for 30sec (-/+) then goes off normally when I'm stuck in traffic and the engine runs hot near to 100c...
What is this light telling?
What can I do?
What sort of cost?
This is my 2nd car this year and can't afford another one or too expensive repairs.
Hope someone can help

its engine management light. so got a faulty sensor somewhere. if it doesnt affect way car performs then should be okay. most likely egr valve as always plays up on these engines

if the light comes on around 40mph+ then it'll most probably the air flow meter thats faulty
