Diesel bad starter
When I try to start my car for the first time in the day it takes a few turns of the starter motor followed by a cloud of smoke. It then starts fine for the rest of the day. Any ideas?

on the first start of the day, as its a diesel, are you turning on the ignitition to gain electrics, then wait for one of the lights to go out, if im right its the coil light.
it has to heat up. Diesels prefer the heat when starting where petrol prefer the cold. Thats why in the mornings when is colder you find it harder to start, and im guessing you might not be waiting for the coil light to go out, your just tring to start the car like a petrol engine.
(if any of the information is wrong, please correct it, but to my general knoweledge i think its about right)

Hi what your referring to is the glow plug light. Yes i'm waiting for that to go out but the temperature isn't cold enough for the plugs to be used so can't be that. I'm thinking valve shims.
