corsa engine or transmission electronics?

hi all, my name is dawn i wonder if anyone can help. today a light came on, from the owners manual its said its the control indicator for immobilizer,( its a car with a spanner through it). The manual says there is a fault in engine or transmission electronics if the light stays on during driving,which it does. i wonder how serious a problem could this be and what kind of repair will it entail. thanks for any help.

I think its more likely its a failed sensor, if the imobililizer was playing up more than likely the car wouldn't start

If I we're you I'd get someone with a fault reader to check it out or if you have any other engine than a 1.0 or a 1.2 16v try the paperclip test
