My Car has Lost power, kangaroos while accelerating...

Hi, I own a 1.0L 1999 Corsa.

A week ago i noticed a slight wheezing sound coming from the engine, a slight loss of power then shortly followed, these problems have gotten worse.the wheezing sound is extremely loud on accelerating, and the car has near to no power, on top of this the car starts to kangaroo whilst accelerating usually between 2000-3000 rpm.

Today in an attempt to fix it i changed the mass air flow metre, this did nothing. Upon a test drive of the car i noticed a sudden increase in temperature nearly to 100 which is unusual as the car even on long journeys never gets hot.

If anyone has any idea what the problem could be, and how to fix it, it would be much appreciated

Thanks, Alex

Where you idle when the temp went up? Kangarooing is normally icv or egr

But whezzing could be an air leak have you checked the intake pipe after the maf

Thanks for the quick reply.

The car only seems to be ok when it is idle, its only when it is moving that I notice anything wrong.

I've had a look through the guides of the FAQ for the icv and egr so I will try and make time tomorrow to check them.

sounds very much like egr valve mate! Try the paperclip test (poormans diagnostic) lol only works on certain vauxhals tho. Iv had pinking pretty bad for a while put new timing belt on and re timed engine was much better then started getting egr valve code flashing on paper clip test tried blocking it and cleaning it nae gd:( then un plugged it and car now runs like a dream apart frm eml on all the time. Let us knw how ya get on mate.
