rear wiper removal and filling

Post by pdrpaul »

hey guys looking to see if anyone else has removed the rear wiper and used glass fibre and wire mesh on the inside of the tailgate let it cure then use bodyfiller at the front and sand prime and paint. my car has rust around the wiper and my hose is split so would rather just get rid of it. got no access to a welder atm and i grudge paying like thirty to forty bux for panel bond adhesive even though its good stuff. just really wanna know if anyone has done it and its held up well. dont wana put grommit there as by time i cut rust out there wont be a small hole lol.

Never heard of being done and dont think it would work fibre glass is mainly used for cracks or on plastic, but try it and report back if it works
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

yeah mate am sure i seen smeone do it before but dnt knw if it lasted or not. Did it to me boot floor@ spare wheel well and seems to have held up well but dnt need a perfect finish there! What bothers me is that fibre glass expands at a different rate to steel so thinking on hot day with sun beating on it the filler may crack and screw up the whole thing! If anyone gets bk and it worked for them al give it a bash. Otherwise i might just get 3m panel bond and do it that way:)

Can't see why this wouldn't work. I've done body repairs before using wire mesh, fibre glass and body filler with some very good results. As long as the area your going to bond to is in good condition without any rust you should be ok
