Hi,

I have a corsa b 1.4 8v and just fitted a new water pump and alternator belt, after which the car makes a new noise as if it has a turbo attached and gets louder the higher the revs , i did notice the alternator belt was slightly smaller then the one i took off so had to readjust the alternator mounting bracket.

I dont know whether to leave it a few days and almost wear the new water pump in or if thats nt the case look into the cam belt tension

Did you make sure the tension of the cambelt was OK? Water pump acts as a tensioner itself for the belt on that one. Be worth making sure its not too tight, and just double check the timing while you're at it.

The timing is all fine, took it for a drive. The cam belt does feel tight but dont know how tight it should be :s i also just read that the water pump acts as a tensioner so could this noise be because i need to turn the pump a bitso the the pulley comes in a bit more to slacken the tension, ie ive put the pump on wrong? Theres no indication as to how te pump should sit .
Thanks

Jst took it apart and reset all te tension on the cam belt, tension indicator all lines up but still whines when the car is running. No matter what speed.

Is the whining noise slightly louder when you have your headlights on? My alternator whines a bit when it's under load (almost sounds like a turbo). Could be pulley bearings too.
