Sump plug...

I've hit another irritating little snag while servicing my car (or at least attempting to service it so far)... The sump plug is well and truly stuck!! The oil was changed around 5/6 months ago and i'm now starting to think the mechanic used a bloody impact gun! I wanted to drain the oil while it was still warm, but i guess i'll have to wait until the sump is cold and see if that makes any difference with the plug
.

No warmer is better as the metal will have expaned a bit, you sure your using the right bit torx 45 iirc i couldnt imagine a mechainic putting a sump plug on with an impact driver tbh
Make sure the bit is fully in the plug and just pull like f**k on the ratchet, thats what i would do anyway

Yep i'm using a T45 bit and pulling hard on the ratchet... I even hit it with a hammer too! I'm assuming it's a standard anti-clockwise type and not one of those reversed plugs?

Its anti clockwise but remember its anti clockwise from a lieing on the ground facing up position so its clockwise to how you normally would take a bolt off

It was easy toe remove once the engine/sump was cold... I've done it back up for now (not tight) so i can warm up the oil a bit before draining

F*cking oil filter won't budge now!! Those damn monkeys who serviced it last have done it up way too tight! Now the cars sat outside with no oil until i find a way to remove the old filter (breaking and replacing the filter housing sounds like the easiest option right now
).

My advise again is brute force/breaker bar
who ever serviced that car must be an absolute knob tbh, £10 says it was a cowboy lol

They guy who last did the oil change and sump gasket actually looked like a gorilla
. I don't intend on going back to his garage again either.
Anyway, it took a large 32mm spanner and an extra pair of hands to remove the oil filter housing (got there in the end
). I noticed there was still some old oil left further down the oil filter "tube"... Is this normal? Or is that part supposed to completely drain too? I also fished out a couple more bits of broken plastic from the previous filter
. The filter i just removed looks crap! The bottom part is cardboard instead of plastic, the grooves/fins are too far apart and the whole thing looks squashed and warped (and very black!)... It's only been in there 6 months and has done around 1200 miles, it's surprising how dirty/black the oil is too!
The car is running much smoother now and the chain rattle has gone from a diesel sounding tapping noise to a very light ticking noise (now using GM 10w40 semi)... Much better
.
Just waiting on my new ICV now...
